If it’s hot chocolate you’re looking for, Cincinnati’s got you covered. From a Belgium dive to a wine bar to a market chocolatier, you’ll find a delicious cup of cocoa to beat winter’s chill in the Queen City. I found four versions, each unique from each other and yet all so delicious. Plus, we discovered some fun stops along the way!
One of my favorite places to visit at Christmastime is the historic German Village in Columbus, Ohio. Something about the snowy brick house on cobbled brick street puts me in a mood to read Dickens while sipping on a steamy cup of hot mulled cider. Here are some of my favorite stops that’ll put you in the Christmas spirit.
I grew up going to Cincinnati’s Union Terminal with my Grandpa, typically around the holidays. With my tiny hand in his, we’d wander from one end to the other, admiring the mosaic murals and the ten-story high ceilings in between. The appreciation I have now is thanks to him. Here are my favorite things about Union Terminal and what you mustn’t miss!
Autumn on a college campus is like springtime in a fairytale or wintertime in the Swiss Alps. It fits perfectly like elbow patches on a tweed jacket. That said, one of my favorite fall activities is strolling through a beautiful leaf-strewn campus. Luckily I live close by to a charming college town, home to Miami University. Here’s my guide to Oxford, Ohio: what to see, do, and eat
We’re all just crazy for pumpkins. And just like everyone else, I’m scooping up as many pumpkins as my front stoop, fireplace mantle, and dining room table centerpiece will allow. So any activity celebrating our beloved pumpkin, I’m there. And luckily, I don’t have to stray far because Ohio seems to love pumpkins as much as I do. Several pumpkin patches sit within a 10-mile radius from where I live. A local city pumpkin glow illuminates all of our imaginations. And a beloved pumpkin show draws thousands to central Ohio. We’ve been checking it all out this October, and here’s what we found.
Most fall bucket lists include apple picking. Ohio has plenty of orchards to choose from. But the apple activity doesn’t stop there. Here are my top suggestions for everything apple in the Buckeye State.
I get really excited when there’s something new I get to try in my local area. Especially when it’s been under my nose the whole time. That was my experience with Alglamesis Bros in Cincinnati. I grew up thinking Graeters was the Queen City’s one and only, but there’s room to share. This old-fashioned parlor is an experience to visit and serves not only really yummy ice cream, but Italian ice and chocolates, as well.
Summer is my favorite season, but so is autumn. So naturally, late August to September is my sweet spot. These are the days I start squeezing out all the warm weather activities, celebrating every sparkling drop. Here are some of my favorite summer activities in “the heart of it all”, a round-up of my favorites I’ve been saving for last.
I have a passion for exploring local agriculture when I travel, and that passion started at home here in Ohio. Today I share my favorite farmer’s markets between Dayton and Cincinnati, and what keeps me coming back every year. Whether on a farm, side of the road, or smack dab in the city, these places are full of local quality and charm.
Last year the city’s Strawberry Festival was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The same thing happened this year as well, except the festival board passed an exception to make a smaller, more intimate community celebration called the Strawberry Jam. The experience was just as sweet.
